7 techniques that actually get you into ChatGPT's answers

After testing various optimization techniques across the major AI platforms, we've identified seven concrete actions that actually make a difference. Some take an afternoon. Others are long-term investments.

1. Answer questions directly and concisely

AI models like content that answers a question clearly in the first two sentences. Structure content like a FAQ: question on top, answer immediately below. It increases the likelihood of citation dramatically.

2. Install llms.txt on your website

An llms.txt file is a machine-readable summary of who you are and what you offer — designed specifically for AI crawlers. It takes 30 minutes to create and is one of the fastest GEO wins you can make.

3. Build English-language content about Norwegian expertise

International buyers search in English. Even if you sell to Norwegian customers, you should have at least 3–5 English-language articles describing your expertise and your market. This alone can double your visibility in global AI searches.

4. Implement Schema.org Organization markup

Schema.org markup gives AI models structured information about who you are — name, industry, geographic market, key services and contact information. It takes a developer an hour to add and has a long-term effect.

5. Get cited in industry publications

AI models weight content from authoritative third-party sources very highly. One article in a recognised trade publication or relevant industry blog can give you more GEO value than ten self-published posts.

6. Write fact-based, not marketing-oriented

ChatGPT doesn't cite advertising copy. It cites facts, figures, case studies and expert statements. Reconsider your content mix: fewer product descriptions, more analyses and expert articles.

7. Build consistency across platforms

AI models favor companies described consistently on LinkedIn, the website, business registries and other platforms. Make sure your professional profile, services and geographic market are described identically everywhere.

These seven techniques require no major investment — but they require time and consistency. That's precisely why most companies don't do it, and why those who do, win.
